BIO

Originally from Hastings, England, I have lived and made work in the US for 25 years. I trained as an actor and transitioned into directing soon after graduating from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Over the last 10 years, I have worked at the Folger Theatre in Washington, DC directing many productions which have won and been nominated for 9 Helen Hayes Awards. Prior to that, I directed for Aquila Theatre Company touring the US and Europe. Many of my Shakespeare productions were Off Broadway New York Times Critic Picks. My production of Much Ado About Nothing performed a command performance at the White House for former President George W. Bush. It  was the first time Shakespeare had been performed in the White House for over 25 years.

COACHING METHODS

I have developed a unique coaching practice for actors that combines both British and American training methods. Having trained in the United Kingdom and worked extensively in the US, my coaching methods are a combination of the best training practices. I offer an approach that allows the actor to embody the text, speak it as if it were the very first time with confidence and clarity. I ask questions like: why is the listener compelling the character to speak? Why is the character continuing to speak? Does the character get their needs met with the monologue?
